If you're thinking of getting involved in NYT, now's your moment! Applications are currently open for auditions, backstage interviews, Playing Up, our Bryan Forbes Assistant Director Bursary, summer masterclasses and Club Membership!


Playing Up Applications Open

Applications are now open for our Playing Up Company 2018-19! Playing Up - our unique FREE nine month course, aimed at young people not in education, employment or training!

Applications will close at midnight on 15 April 2018!

What is the National Youth Theatre’s Playing Up Company Course?
Playing Up is an OCN Level 3 accredited 9 month drama training programme, offering young people aged 19 - 24 who are not in Education Employment or Training the opportunity to gain an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Theatre Arts, which is equivalent to 2 ‘A’ Levels.

Bryan Forbes Applications Open

We've opened applications for our Bryan Forbes Assistant Director Bursary 2018. Are you a past or present NYT member?

The National Youth Theatre of Great Britain are offering one emerging director the opportunity to become part of the 2018 NYT REP Company. The successful applicant will support the work of the NYT REP Company, assistant direct the REP Company's productions, direct a scratch performance and receive mentoring from an industry professional.


Auditions and Backstage Interviews

It’s full steam ahead for our national auditions and backstage interviews tour! This weekend you can find us in Aberystwyth, London, Manchester, Sheffield, Brighton, Birmingham, and Elgin. Bursaries available.

There’s not much time left to book your NYT audition, or backstage interview, so if you’re thinking of applying don’t delay. We’ve added some final dates in London at the Lyric Hammersmith and National Youth Theatre’s Holloway Road rehearsal rooms.

Looking for something to do this summer?

If you’re not auditioning for one of our intake summer courses, have you thought about joining one of our summer programmes or masterclasses instead? No audition necessary.

  • Masterclasses: Our summer Acting for Screen masterclasses are now on sale! Led by top industry professionals, aimed at students wishing to gain more skills and knowledge in performing on TV and in Film!
  • Start Up Summer: Aged 11-14 and wanting to kick start your journey with NYT? This six day course is the perfect introduction to the NYT’s approach to ensemble theatre making. Using story-telling, chorus, character and song, you will develop your talent working as part of a company.
  • A London Theatre Experience: A three-week National Youth Theatre course designed to offer a fully immersive experience in theatre making whilst developing your talent in the heart of London’s ‘Theatreland’. Open to all those based within and outside of the UK!
  • More courses to be announced!


Fabulous Fundfair

On Monday, 32 NYT Members performed with at the Naked Heart Foundation’s ‘Fabulous Fundfair’ at the Roundhouse. NYT worked with Timebased on the intergalactic themed event, thanks to NYT Vintage Richard Dodgson.


Casting Update

Our 2018 casting auditions have now entered recall stages. We are currently holding recalls for the 2018 REP Company - if you haven't heard yet, don't panic, we are still giving out a few places on our REP recalls, but we are also still casting for all of our 2018 productions! As well as The Fall and DNA, we'll be shortly announcing our 2018 season in full so keep your eyes peeled for updates on season announcements, and season casting recalls.

If you're a current NYT member, and missed NYT casting auditions this year - make sure your NYT Company membership is active so you don't miss out next year!
