Our 2021 Auditions Access Fund Partners & Bursaries w News Article

We're delighted to be partnering with brilliant organisations rooted in communities around the UK to improve access to NYT through free digital workshops and NYT Auditions, as part of our Auditions Access Fund supported by NYT Alumnus and Patron Hugh Bonneville. Over 250 free Hub subscriptions will be made available participants, which will provide free NYT Auditions, Interviews, and access to further industry workshops and resources.

Our 2021 Partners are:

  • Eden Court, Inverness
  • Theatr Clwyd, North Wales
  • The Playhouse, Derry
  • The Mayflower Theatre, Southampton
  • Royal and Derngate, Northampton
  • Lighthouse, Poole's Centre for the Arts
  • The Workshop, King’s Lynn Norfolk

In 2021, we are also partnering for the first time with a backstage focused partner Backstage Niche to provide free taster workshops in technical theatre and NYT Interviews for our backstage intake courses targeted at young people from ethnically diverse backgrounds currently underrepresented in the creative industries. Founded by Sylvia Darkwa-Ohemeng, Backstage Niche, aims to represent the diversity of life behind the curtain in theatre. More information on these sessions with Backstage Niche will be available soon, or you can register your interest here.

We are thrilled to also be launching two new dedicated schemes offering 20 fully-funded places on our summer courses (covering accommodation and course fees) to young people who have engaged with us through our work with Black Ticket Project and Backstage Niche. Black Ticket Project, founded by Tobi Kyeremateng, were also part of the Auditions Access Fund in 2020 and 44% of those who applied were offered a place on a National Youth Theatre intake course and everyone who applied for a bursary was awarded one.

These new bursary places are in addition to the £70,000 NYT Summer Course Bursary available for young people to apply for to support accommodation, travel, living expenses and course fees.

The Audition Access Fund was created thanks to support from NYT Patron and alumnus Hugh Bonneville and is now in its third year. It’s designed to remove financial, geographical, cultural and other barriers that might prevent young people auditioning through partnerships with organisations rooted in their communities around the UK.

Since 2019 over 400 young people have benefitted from free activity through the Auditions Access Fund.
