We’re proud to announce that Adeel Akhtar has become a National Youth Theatre Patron.
Adeel, who is a former member of the National Youth Theatre, becomes a Patron as we announce year 2 of our IGNITE Your Creativity programme in partnership with Netflix.
Adeel said: “It’s a pleasure to become a National Youth Theatre Patron and be a part of the IGNITE programme and all the incredible work Netflix and NYT are doing to support more young people from all walks of life into the arts. This research speaks to my personal experience of the complexity of breaking into the creative industry, and I feel passionately about paving the way for the next generation of young people, and their parents, to maximise their creative potential.”
Paul Roseby OBE, NYT CEO & Artistic Director said: ‘Adeel is an incredibly watchful, instinctive and compassionate actor, with hidden depths that make each performance truthful and convincing. He’ll be a great inspiration to the next generation of new talent finding their way and their voice. We’re proud to have him as a Patron.’
Adeel was a member of the National Youth Theatre in the early 2000s and as an acting member toured to Berlin and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and performed at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre. He went on to work as an assistant director for the company on a new play at the Soho Theatre. In 2017 he became the first performer from the global majority to win a best actor BAFTA for his performance in BBC drama Murdered By My Father.
