Here's your weekly lowdown of all things NYT. Got any NYT news of your own? Let us know by emailing amelia.oakley@nyt.org.uk

Playing Up

This week we welcomed our new Playing Up Company to the course’s new base at our Holloway Road Rehearsal Rooms. The company kicked off their training with a session with NYT Alumnus and Associate Kane Husbands on their first day, followed by a day with Toby Clarke, Co-founder of ALT.

The company will work part time with NYT for ten months, developing with the help of a whole host of NYT Tutors, before staging a end of course performance in Summer 2018.

Playing Up is an OCN Level 3 accredited 10 month drama training programme, offering young people aged 19 - 24 who are not in Education Employment or Training the opportunity to gain an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Theatre Arts, which is equivalent to 2 ‘A’ Levels. Now in its 14th year, the annual talent showcase spotlights up-and-coming actors, writers, directors and producers from the UK and Ireland who are primed to be the next big thing in the industry.

NYT Alumni Jade Anouka, Archie Madekwe, Paapa Essiedu and Patrick Gibson all made the cut.

National Youth Theatre Alumni have been making waves at the National Theatre this week.

NYT REP Company Alumni Conor Neaves is currently appearing in Saint George and the Dragon, which had its first previews this week.

Whilst the NT’s season announcement this week include a number of familiar names.

Roy Alexander Weise, who is currently directing Jekyll and Hyde featuring the 2017 REP Company, is to direct Natasha Gordon’s debut play Nine Night in the Dorfman Theatre.
