This Week at NYT | The Host opens, audition tips, and a R&D at the National Theatre

This week marked the start of our 2018 season with the opening night of The Host.

The Host

Nessah Muthy’s critically acclaimed The Host opened last night at St James’s Church Piccadilly. Returning after a sell-out run at The Yard Theatre in 2017, The Host was written in response to Brexit and the European refugee crisis.

The Host runs at St James’s Piccadilly until Saturday 3rd of February. Tickets from £14.


Twelfth Night R&D

Last week NYT Members took part in a R&D surrounding Twelfth Night with Rikki Beadle Blair at our Holloway Road rehearsal space. The project developed from the earlier ‘Timeless’ R&D in summer 2017 when NYT members of various genders and sexualities gathered with Rikki Beadle-Blair to explore the evolving LGBTQ+ alphabet of identities.


Auditions

Our NYT Auditions and Backstage Interviews tour continued this week – we’ve got auditions happening all over the country until this March searching for brilliant young talent to join the NYT company.

Pericles R&D

On Tuesday around 100 members formed the company for a R&D at the National Theatre, on the Olivier Stage for Pericles, one of NT’s major Public Acts projects in 2018.

Tina Turner Musical

Rehearsals for the Tina Turner Musical continued at our Holloway Road rehearsal space this week, with some very special visits from Tina Turner herself.


NYT Member and Alumni News

NYT Vintage member Vanessa Kirby is currently filming for the latest film in the Mission Impossible franchise, Mission Impossible – Fallout.

Mahalia Belo is currently directing Requiem for BBC1 and Netflix which premiers tonight at 9pm on BBC One.

NYT Members and Alumni Jade Anouka, Isabel Adomakoh Young, Laura Jayne Ayres, Liz Chan have been cast in How the Vote Was Won at the Bunker Theatre.

Jade Anouka also talks to the Evening Standard about her role in the upcoming ITV drama Trauma.

Georgia Christou's debut play Yous Two is playing at Hampstead Theatre until 24 February.

A company of NYT Members present ‘The Girl With Glitter In Her Eye’ at Gerry’s, Stratford East 8 - 10 Feb. A show colliding music and poetry telling the story of a young woman with a secret she believes she can never overcome.

WoLaboratory, founded by NYT Associate Alistair Wilkinson have just announced Playlist, bringing together a collective of performance makers including a whole load of current NYT Members and Alumni.
