This Week at NYT | Zigger Zagger, The REP Season, and NYTxSpotlight Workshop

Posted 29 Jul 2023 by Joe Duggan

Another jam packed week at NYT. Take a look at what we've been getting up to:

Zigger Zagger

Our special 50th anniversary production of Zigger Zagger kicks off next week at Wilton’s Music Hall. The play became NYT’s first ever commission in 1967, and has been performed by NYT, other theatre companies and schools all around the country and the globe ever since. Directed by Juliet Knight, this 2017 production brings together a whole new bunch of young talent, forming our 50 strong Zigger Zagger ensemble.
Take a listen to our CEO Paul Roseby and the lead Josh on the Radio 5 chatting about the show:

Zigger Zagger | Sep 6-9 | Wilton’s Music Hall
The original football hooliganism play is back.

Widely considered one of the definitive plays on football hooliganism, Zigger Zagger is to return 50 years after becoming the National Youth Theatre's first ever new writing commission. Peter Terson's widely studied play will receive a special anniversary production at Wilton’s Music Hall marking half a century since its world premiere

The REP Season

The REP Company West End Season at Ambassadors Theatre is just around the corner. There are a limited number of discounted preview tickets remaining so snap them up before they’re gone!

This week photographer Helen Murray dropped into Othello rehearsals to give us a sneak peak of what’s to come. We’ve also had visits from Digital Theatre and the BBC recently, so keep your eyes peeled for new content coming soon…

Farewell to the Yard Theatre

After three shows and a whole host of sold out nights, the East End Season at the Yard Theatre came to an end last weekend with the closing night of The Host. Shout out to the lovely team at the Yard for all of their help.

Next up in our East End Season we move over to Wilton’s Music Hall for Zigger Zagger

Spotlight x NYT Workshop

Last Friday NYT ran a taster summer school workshop in collaboration with Spotlight. The two sessions were run by NYT Associate Kane Husbands at Spotlight, and were each accompanied by a Q&A panel, the first of which featuring NYT’s own Seraphina Beh. The event was a great success and will hopefully pave the way for more in the future.

LGBT+ Stories

An R&D with Rikki Beadle-Blair looking at LGBT history starts on Monday.

Timeless
Love’s epic legacy of LGBT diversity.
As long as we have been human we have been diverse. Timeless is an exploration of LGBT identities throughout recorded history, excavating and examining the clues and characters that still live and breathe within the legacies of drama, music and literature and art.

Courses 2018

Last weekend saw the final end of course performances for our Epic Stages participants, who have been training with us for the past four weeks at Rose Bruford College, in Sidcup. This weekend it's the turn of our Senior Course participants, who after their training with us at Trinity Laban will be showing off all that they've been working on!
