Start-Up Saturday’s – Up and off to Birmingham!
From January the National Youth Theatre will be bringing a new class for 11-14’s to the Old REP Theatre in the heart of Birmingham.
This is the first time the National Youth Theatre have teamed up with the Birmingham Old REP Theatre to deliver a unique ten week course, Start-Up Saturday’s. The weekly class, which was piloted for the first time this year in London, is designed to offer all abilities an introduction to the organisation and develop early interests in performing. During a morning or afternoon three hour class, participants explore theatre making, story telling, song, movement and devising. Working as an ensemble is a huge part of the National Youth Theatre’s ethos and work, and Start-Up Saturday’s offers young people the opportunity to experience this first hand. As a company, participants will work towards a final sharing on the Old REP’s main stage for friends and family to come along and support. All of our short courses, masterclasses and national auditions are led by experienced NYT associate artists and theatre directors. Many leaders have come through our free facilitation training Creative Leadership, which we’re delighted to be running at the Old REP this year to recruit associates local to Birmingham to support our new venture with the Old REP Theatre.
