National Youth Theatre Spoken Word Competition | Find Your Voice

Posted 29 Jul 2023 by Joe Duggan

To celebrate the diverse talent of our members, we’re thrilled to announce the first ever National Youth Theatre Spoken Word Competition!

We are asking for submissions in response to the theme ‘Find Your Voice’. You can interpret the theme in whatever way you choose, so be creative!

That said, your response must be in the form of a spoken word poem less than a minute in length.

This competition is open to anyone and everyone aged 14-25! Whether you’re an NYT Member or not, we want to hear your voice.

To submit:

  • Write your spoken word poem responding to the theme ‘Find Your Voice’
  • Film yourself or a friend performing the piece, and send it to us here by uploading it unlisted to Youtube or Vimeo and sending us the link
  • Your poem must be under a minute in length
  • You can film your poem with a camera, or a phone, as long as it is audible and clear
  • Please film your performance in landscape

Deadline for submissions: Monday 27th November 2017
Results Announced: 18th December 2017

The competition will be judged by National Youth Theatre’s Artistic Director Paul Roseby.

The three winners will also be invited to perform at the inaugural National Youth Theatre spoken word event in 2018, as well as having their poems showcased on our social media.

A shortlist of poems will also be announced and featured on our social media channels, with a combined following of +50,000.
