This Week at NYT | Farewell to our spring season, and hello to our 2018 REP Company!

Posted 29 Jul 2023 by Joe Duggan

When one door closes, another one opens. We say goodbye to our spring season at Southwark Playhouse, and hello to our new REP Company for 2018!

Our Southwark season comes to an end

We can’t believe that it’s the final week of our spring season at Southwark Playhouse, with Dennis Kelly’s DNA having their final matinee performance on Friday afternoon and James Fritz’s The Fall acting as our season finale on Saturday evening.

This week we found out that The Fall, directed by Matt Harrison, has been nominated for three Offie awards for best Ensemble, Director, and Production!

On Wednesday evening we welcomed NYT supporters along to see a performance of The Fall, followed by a post show meet and greet with the cast. We were also treated to a performance from NYT Member and NYT Spoken Word competition winner Corey Peterson of his poem L’Espirit de Escalier: Generation Snowflake, written in response to The Fall.

ShortFLIX screening

This week we were invited along to Sky Cinema for an exclusive screening of all of the winning ShortFLIX films, a collaboration between Creative England, Sky Arts and NYT.

The winning films include Batty Boy by Playing Up grad Dior Clarke, and Nosebleed starring NYT’s Lily Newmark and Ruby Stokes.

Want to watch the films for yourself? Tune into Sky Arts on 24 May at 10.30pm.

Backstage Creative Leadership

Applications close this Friday for our FREE Creative Leadership Training for backstage members!

Through taking part in our Creative Leadership Training day, successful applicants will learn and develop teaching and facilitation techniques. You will also be considered for paid Course Assistant roles on the 2018 Backstage summer courses.

Playing Up

This week our Playing Up Company performed the scene studies that have been working on for their qualification at our Holloway Road workshop.

They are now into the final two months of their training course, and will soon be starting rehearsals for their final production at the Bunker Theatre in July.

REP Training starts next week

Our 2018 REP Company begin their training next week. They’ll be working with us up until December, alongside our brand new Bryan Forbes REP Assistant Director 2018.

Here’s another look at our brilliant REP Company for 2018

Flood by Rory Mullarky

All this week our members have been working on a R&D for Rory Mullarkey’s Flood, which will be heading to Hong Kong later this year.
