The Fall Duologue Competition | Winners Announced!

Posted 29 Jul 2023 by Joe Duggan

We’re delighted to announce the winners of The Fall Duologue competition in response to our production of James Fritz’s The Fall at Southwark Playhouse.

We put out an open call for 14-26 year olds to stage and film a scene from James Fritz’s script, and to put their own spin on the piece. The competition was judged by our Artistic Director and CEO Paul Roseby who said:

“I was so impressed by the huge number of submissions from NYT members and non members, and the great effort so many people went to. The winning entries all caught my eye as they all explore the cinematic possibility of the script, are creatively filmed and edited, and show very different ways of interpreting the scene. It’s brilliant to see young creatives collaborating and creating such high quality work together.

I loved the originality, wit and irreverence of Elinor Solly and Jamie Cottle's entry, who also went above and beyond with set and costume with a fab Grayson Perry-style twist. A special mention to Natalie Powell and James Knapp too who showed great truth and naturalism. In the end though Leo Flanagan & Isobel Warner's film stood out to me with it's strong performances, clever staging and pacy editing. Congrats to all and thanks to all for putting in so much time and talent."

The winners of the competition will perform an extract from The Fall with NYT on a West End stage later this year, and also will receive an overnight stay in a London hotel.
