Posted 22 Jul 2023 by Joe Duggan

Stepping Up Coordinator

We want to meet theatre professionals who are passionate about addressing barriers that prevent young people from accessing the arts and education for our new Stepping Up Coordinator role. Stepping Up is a core part of our inclusion programme, designed to make our opportunities, and the arts more broadly, more accessible to young people from backgrounds currently underrepresented in our company and the creative industries.

Stepping Up is an OCN Level 2 accredited drama training programme, offering young people aged 19 - 25 who do not have a full Level 2 qualification (less than 5 GCSEs) an opportunity to gain this accreditation. In 2020 NYT will be offering two Level 2 Programmes, one of which will be a bespoke model developed specifically for young people with learning disabilities based in an SEN Secondary School in Lambeth. The other will be delivered at NYT Headquarters and will be open to all young people who currently do not have a full level 2 qualification. Stepping Up and it’s sister course Playing Up (Level 3 OCN Accredited) often are the first point of contact for the NYT for young people experiencing challenging life circumstances and we’re particularly interested in meeting candidates with experience of working in pastoral roles with young people from marginalised groups and candidates whom the participants can easily identify

The National Youth Theatre is an equal opportunities employer and we want anyone who meets the criterion in the job description here to feel comfortable applying for the role. We actively encourage applications from people from backgrounds currently underrepresented in the arts, including people with disability and people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds. Benefits include free theatre tickets and a generous holiday allowance.

We are a Disability Confident employer and if you have any access requirements or would like to receive this information in another format you can contact us on jobs@nyt.org.uk or 020 7561 8661.

If you’d like to have an informal conversation with someone at National Youth Theatre about this role, email jobs@nyt.org.uk or call 020 7561 8661.
