Interested in taking part? Submissions are currently open. Whether you’ve written your own play and want a chance to see part of it performed, got a spoken word piece or song you’d like to share, or want to perform a monologue or duologue - get involved. Submissions do not need to be specifically about race and/or culture. All are welcome and encouraged to attend the live-stream as audience members - submissions are open to young artists of colour.

The first Rush took place in October 2019 to mark Black History Month at National Youth Theatre's north London home and was a cabaret style scratch night curated by NYT Member Shakira Newton and directed by Lakesha Arie-Angelo, with pieces performed, written or created by black NYT Members. Shakira was inspired to stage Rush as a response to the lack of people of colour at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where she starred in NYT's production of F*Off.
