An exclusive first look at a new world-exclusive by award-winning Midlands playwright and NYT alumnus Rachel De-Lahay. The Hole was commissioned by the NYT as part of our commitment to producing work by voices from around the UK.

A world premiere by award-winning Bradford born playwright and actor Asif Khan, compellingly directed by National Theatre and RSC director Iqbal Khan.

July 2019

Marking 50 years since man first set foot on the moon, Britain’s most exciting young talent from the National Youth Theatre stage award-winner Al Smith’s all-female  fast-paced comic drama The Astronaut Wives Club. Alongside an original Spoken Word performance piece by National Youth Theatre Members 


Belly Button, Underbelly, Edinburgh Fringe Festival
August 2019

As the extremes of social media kick up an unsettling and unsavoury stink, we are kicking off in response in true interrogatory style to put Mark Zuckerberg and his social media colleagues ‘on trial.’ Written by Evening Standard ‘one-to-watch’ Tatty Hennessy and wittily directed with by NYT Artistic Director Paul Roseby.

The NYT Audition Access Fund supported by Hugh Bonneville 

Thanks to the support of NYT Patron and Alumnus Hugh Bonneville in 2019 we offered free auditions and preparation workshops and bursaries for those who are successful at 10 schools or youth theatres that have experienced cuts to drama provision, including:

Members' Programme 

New to 2019, we introduce the National Youth Theatre's Membership Programme. A series of free creative workshops and opportunities or current National Youth Theatre members* to get involved in taking place in numerous UK cities.

West Norfolk

In Autumn 2018 we offered open access sessions for young people based in West Norfolk funded jointly by the DMCMS and the Big Lottery Fund. In Spring 2019 we returned with pop-up auditions in King’s Lynn.
