Aged 16-25 and interested in exploring a future in Backstage Theatre?
We have partnered up with Backstage Niche to provide free taster sessions in technical theatre this March which aim to explore the exciting possibilities of a career in backstage theatre.
These sessions are primarily targeted at young people from ethnically diverse backgrounds currently underrepresented in the creative industries, but are open to anyone in the UK aged 16-25.
We encourage participants in these sessions to then apply to join National Youth Theatre's Backstage Intake Courses by joining the NYT Hub, and taking part in a digital Backstage Interview. A select number of free Hub Subscriptions and fully funded course places will be available to participants from ethnically diverse backgrounds.
Backstage Taster Day
Sunday 7th March, 1.30pm-3pm
Join freelance creatives from the Backstage Niche network for a taster session introducing the disciplines: Stage Management, Costume, Set Design, Lighting, and Sound. During the session you'll rotate and experience mini-sessions with a specialist from each discipline, and get a real sense of what different jobs in backstage theatre might look like.
No prior experience is necessary, and we actively encourage those who are thinking about exploring backstage theatre for the first time to get involved.
Backstage Workshop Day
Saturday 20th March 1pm-4pm
Got a specialism you're most interested in? Join us for a free 60 minute practical workshop exploring your chosen specialism online. Whether you're curious about designing period costumes, organising teams, or using sound to create stories and atmosphere these sessions will equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to get started with your specialism.
1-2pm: Stage Management
2-3pm: Sound & Lighting
3-4pm: Set Design & Costume Design
You can sign up to more than one workshop.
