Hours of work and absence:
We require all participants to be available for the duration of the course and cannot allow any absence under any circumstances. Our course directors need to have the option of planning rehearsals at anytime with a full company (which can sometimes include weekends and evenings). Sundays are generally a day off.

Where can I stay during the course?
We offer local accommodation for those that would like to experience living away from home or are based outside of London. Accommodation provided by the National Youth Theatre is offered on a first come first served basis.

Are bursaries available to help cover costs of fees/accommodation/travel or living expenses?
Yes. Last year we gave over £650,000 worth of bursaries to help participants take part in our auditions, courses and shows.
The NYT Bursary Fund is in high demand so we ask you only to apply for a bursary if you are experiencing financial hardship. Bursaries are means tested and will be offered to part cover transport, course fees or accommodation costs should you be successful in gaining a place. To find out more and how to apply visit here.

Bursary application deadline (all courses): TBC
Once you have submitted your form to , please allow up ten working days for us to review it and provide you with an outcome. Within this time you will receive a letter via email from our finance team.

We can't always assist everyone who applies for a bursary - applications are offered to those most in need. We would therefore also encourage you to fundraise if you can.
Every year some young people fundraise the full amount of their audition and course fees in order to take part. Find out more.

Can I change courses?
No, due to the limited number of places we offer we cannot offer transfers onto different courses regardless of age.

Is my place safe?
Please be advised we won’t offer your place to anyone else unless we have received written confirmation that you are unable to take part.

I’m on the reserve list, how does it work?
Following our auditions around 600 acting applicants have been offered a place on a summer membership course. However, in previous years not everyone has been able to accept these places. Therefore, if an applicant declines we contact young people one at a time on the reserve list who may wish to take up the place.

Due to the nature of how places are accepted and our aim to create a balanced company, we are not able to guarantee anyone on the reserve list will be offered a place or give an indication of how likely it is that those on the reserve list might be contacted. That being said, if at any point before the courses begin a young person drops out of one of the courses we will offer their place to someone on the reserve list.

We appreciate that this will be disappointing and don’t expect anyone to hold off making other plans for the summer, but wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed meeting you at the audition and you came very close.
If a place does become available, we will contact you via email.
