Over 6 weeks you will meet 6 industry-leading practitioners to experiment with their unique process and learn about their journey through the industry. This masterclass is perfect for those who are passionate about movement and want to explore the different routes a career in movement direction could take them.
Each of the guest facilitators will have a specific focus for their session and will guide you through an introduction to their work, some practical exercises and provide an opportunity for a Q&A.

Bethan is a Fight and Intimacy Director working in theatre, TV and Film.
She is also a Certified Teacher with the British Academy of Dramatic Combat.
Bethan’s route to dramatic combat and intimacy practice came via working professionally as an actor and fight performer in theatre and film.

Sophie Cooch (she/her) is a certified Intimacy Coordinator for Screen and an Intimacy Director for stage based in the UK. As an Intimacy Coordinator, Sophie has worked on productions for Netflix, Disney+, Paramount, Apple TV, Lionsgate, Channel 4, BBC, and ITV.
Sophie is certified with Intimacy Directors & Coordinators (IDC) in New York, where she had the privilege of training under pioneering Intimacy Coordinators Alicia Rodis (IC for HBO studios, Pretty Little Liars, Watchmen, And Just Like That ), Claire Warden (First Intimacy Director on Broadway, Slave Play, Gossip Girl, West Side Story) and Marcus Watson (American Horror Story, Succession, Time Traveler's Wife).
Sophie has worked as an Intimacy Practitioner in Film, TV, Theatre, Musicals, Commercials, Music Videos, Performance Art, and Youth Productions. Her work as an Intimacy Practitioner is project-centered, acknowledging that every project and person is different and tailoring her approach to suit each production’s specific needs.

Imogen Knight is a movement director and artist working with the body in the form of choreography, connectivity and somatic movement.She works across theatre, film and tv, classical and electronic music, performance and visual art, photography, and opera.
Imogen, Sarah Frankcom and Maxine Peake are co-founders of Music, Art, Activism, Theatre – MAAT and they regularly make ambitious, powerful and original large scale performance work for Manchester International Festival. Imogen was movement coach on Chernobyl for HBO, which is currently the biggest BAFTA winning series to date.
Imogen is the movement director for NYX – female trans non binary electronic drone choir. NYX looks to reshape the role of the traditional female choir, testing the limits of organic and synthetic modulation to explore the entire spectrum of collective female voice as an instrument.
Imogen regularly works with the artist and composer Matthew Herbert. In 2023 they created Rheinklang – ein chorritual a 90 person choric community performance work for Theater Basel. In 2023 they also collaborated on THE HORSE, a live performance work with London Contemporary Orchestra that premiered at Edinburgh International Festival and toured to Geneva, Berlin and the Barbican, London. Imogen worked alongside Matthew Herbert and Frank Wiedemann to create the opening ceremony for the City of Culture in Esch, Luxembourg, 2022.
Imogen has directed work with orchestras and musicians from the London Sinfonietta, Southbank Sinfonia, London Contemporary Orchestra, Royal College of Music and Royal Northern College of Music that explores alternative and heightened ways of experiencing classical and electronic music. She works closely with music artists Common, Matthew Herbert, Gazelle Twin, Keeley Forsyth, Anna Phoebe and Isobel Waller Bridge.
Imogen was awarded the Choreography for Children 2012 commission by Sadler’s Wells, Company of Angels and The Place. OMG! premiered at The Place and Sadler’s Wells in 2013.
A playful and physical ensemble theatre company who create distinctive and critically acclaimed productions, lead inclusive workshops rooted in kindness, and work tirelessly to develop the industry we move in through connection and uplifting.
Our physical training is central to the company and we offer this for everybody and every body, no matter your previous experience. By moving, playing, talking and listening, we create rooms (physical or digital) that are full of heart and where you can just be you.

This course is available for anyone aged 18-30 whether they are active members of NYT or new to the organisation
Am I eligible for a free place?
At The National Youth Theatre we never want cost to be a barrier, that's why we offer limited free spaces on each course. For a free place, please fill out the short application form here
I have access needs, can I still take part?
Our courses are adaptable for participants with disability and neurodivergence where required. All participants are asked to provide Access Requirements before attending to make sure their needs are met. For further information, please contact auditionandcourses@nyt.org.uk
What should I bring?
Please wear comfortable clothing, bring a water bottle, notepad, a pen and a snack (NYT is next to many shops, cafes and a Sainsburys)
