Join Nancy Zamit for a 5-week deep dive into comedy and characterisation. Whether you are creating your own work, auditioning or simply looking to grow your comedic instincts this is for you.
Week 1/ Improvisation
Using improvisation techniques to create character. Learn how you can find inspiration from the biggest and the smallest moments. There are no wrong ideas.
Week 2/ Clowning
Learning Clowning techniques to hone comedic beats and inform and refine character work.
Week 3/ Script Work
Looking at existing scripts and seeing what can be found from text alone. How do different people interpret the same words in different ways? How can different comedic styles be created by the same play text?
Week 4/ Backstory/audience response
Building on improv and clowning work from weeks 1+2 we will look at bulking out character and building rhythm with an audience.
Week 5/ Director/Actor Inspiration
Collaborative environments can as challenging as they are rewarding. We will look at how to practically use all the things we have learnt in a joyful, collaborative useful way. Learn how to blend your comedic style with other actors and be able to be mailable with direction.

What should I bring?
Please wear comfortable clothing, bring a snack and water bottle (NYT is walking distance to many corner shops, cafes & local supermarkets to buy food from), a notepad and a pen
