NYT X Compass Collective Writer Commission Call Out

National Youth Theatre and Compass Collective are commissioning a writer to work with a company of young people aged 18-30, to tell a coming-of-age story as part of a festival of bold new writing, taking place at NYT between 7-26 July 2025.
The commissioned writer will collaborate with Compass Collective Associate Artist Eleanor Henderson, who will direct this work. The writer will receive a short play commission and rehearsal attendance fees, to develop and rehearse a work-in-development piece, working with a company of Compass Collective and NYT members. The process will culminate in up to 3 performances of the work-in-progress in NYT’s Workshop Theatre in July 2025.
For this opportunity, we are particularly keen to hear from a writer who:
- Has lived experience of being a refugee or the process of seeking asylum
- Has experience of leading a collaborative, responsive writing process and/or co-creation
- Is excited to work with a large mixed company of between 12-16 Compass Collective and NYT members
Though there is no set theme, we are interested in developing a coming-of-age story that weaves in the experience, and multiple cultural identities, of the members of the young company.
