Performance at world's first AI summit for young people

Posted 11 Feb 2025

Last week National Youth Theatre members performed at the world’s first ever Children and Young People’s AI summit, organised by The Alan Turing Institute and taking place next week in partnership with Queen Mary University London.

The event brought together over 100 children and young people to explore how AI impacts them today and how they can shape its future. Through interactive sessions, children and young people from the age of 8 to 18 shared their views on how AI can positively impact on their lives and discuss concerns they have about the technology.

Their views formed a children’s manifesto on the future of AI which will be presented at the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris on the 10 and 11 February. This global event will be attended by Heads of State and Government from around the world, leaders of international organisations, tech companies, academics and NGOs.

NYT members performed an improvisation scene incorporating AI in live performance taken from our Digital Accelerator programme supported by Microsoft, original spoken word pieces and an extract from a play exploring AI by NYT REP Company graduate Sophie Ellerby.

The event was supported by the LEGO Group, Elevate Great, and EY, with collaboration from the NSPCC, the PSHE Association, Teens in AI, 5RightsFoundation, Children’s Parliament and Children’s Media Foundation.
