Humans of NYT REP Rhys Quilley Interview

My favourite film is ‘I Swear’ and ‘Three Bilboards Outside Ebbing Missouri’ all recent movies because I didn’t watch many films when I was younger… I was just outside playing football. Growing up I played for Queens Park Rangers Academy (QPR) Before getting Avascular Necrosis (which is a bone disease) in my hip which stopped me from playing when I was 18. It’s weird because North London isn’t deprived of acting opportunities but coming from completely different circles the arts never even crossed my mind.
A year after my operation my best mate's stepdad suggested I get into acting so I started attending classes at Platform a Youth Hub in Islington. Thanks to Amber and Anna my first acting teachers who recommended me to NYT.
Before getting into NYT Rep Company, I was a part of the Stratford East Young Company for their 140th Anniversary where we performed Romeo and Juliet.
"I’ve tried to retain the football discipline combined with the childlike wonder that lives in theatre."
The football and acting world are very different but also very similar. I’ve tried to retain the football discipline combined with the childlike wonder that lives in theatre. One thing I enjoyed doing this year was ‘The Artist Way’ by Julia Cameron. It’s basically a deep dive into self and creativity and it felt relevant at the time I was doing REP to process it.
My first encounter with theatre was ‘Death of England’ by Clint Dyer at the National Theatre and “Seven Methods of Killing Kylie Jenner” Directed by Millie Bhatia which we are now working with on our short film for NYT which is a crazy full circle moment.
I really want to be in a Black Mirror Episode so hit me up if you cast it.
Rhys Quilley Played Max in ‘Dracula’ and is playing Micke in ‘Let the Right One In’ which is closing this Saturday May 23 taking place at The Underbelly Boulevard Soho.
