Free script writing & storytelling workshops

Various dates and locations in January & February

Taking place in cities across the UK, these are an opportunity for young people, aged 14-30, to work with a writer to develop and hone a script or an idea. Through a 3-hour session, you’ll work with a writer in small groups to explore principles of writing, learn tips to create your own writer’s toolkit, and gain practical support in developing an idea for a brand-new script or story.

These workshops kick off a year of exciting writing and storytelling opportunities with NYT.

Following the success of StoryFirst 2025, our brand-new member script nights, launched as part of NYT’s new writing festival StoryFest, we will again be running an open call for script submissions in early 2026. You must attend a storytelling workshop to be eligible to submit a script as part of this process.

Alongside StoryFest, as part of our NYT’s 70th birthday celebrations next year, we will be announcing a BIG project inviting young people to create new work and share their stories.

If you would like to kick off the year by sharpening your storytelling skills, then these free workshops are for you!

These workshops are suitable for complete beginners, or for young people who already have an interest in writing but want to hone their practice and learn from a writer in the industry.
