Creative Leadership is a unique creative development opportunity open to active National Youth Theatre Company Members

The programme offers opportunties for NYT Members interested in theatre training, drama facilitation and teaching to develop their skills in a hands-on exciting environment. From becoming an NYT Ambassadors to training alongside the REP Company as the Bryan Forbes Assistant Director, there are a huge number of opportunities available to develop your skills and nurture your ambition as a young theatre maker.

NYT Ambassador Training 

Open to all NYT Company Members. NYT Ambassadors receive a day of training from an NYT Associate exploring leadership and communication skills. As an Ambassador, you can get involved as an Ambassador on our national auditions and backstage interviews tour, helping out the auditioner in workshops and supporting participants on the day. You can also volunteer to speak about NYT in schools, at events, and volunteer at our fundraising events throughout the year. 

Creative Leadership Training (18+s) 

Our anual Creative Leadership Training provides NYT Members aged 18-25 with a weekend of training focusing on learning and developing teaching, directing and facilitation techniques.

Creative Leadership trained members can go on to work on paid roles on our summer courses and masterclasses, assisting the director running the course, right up to Company Management. Members with this training might also go on to work on specialist projects with NYT, such as our Access and Inclusivity programme, gain Assistant Director roles with us, or become an NYT Associate in the long term. 


Centre Stage Creatives 

A brand new career boosting talent development opportunity for current NYT Members, new to 2019. Centre Stage Creatives offers the chance for a select number of current NYT members aged 18-25 from any creative discipline a unique chance to work alongside the organisation for 18 months, to connect our members to creative opportunities in their area and one and other, and produce a piece of creative work in their local area.

Bryan Forbes NYT REP Assitant Director Bursary 

A unique opportunity for an emerging director aged 18-30 to train alongside our NYT REP Company supported by a  £10,000 bursary. The Bryan Forbes NYT REP Assitant Director ​​​​​​supports the work of the REP Company, assistant directs their shows, receives mentoring from an industry professional and in the  past has had the chance to direct their own production. Open to NYT Members and non-members.

Playing Up Course Assistant 

Open to National Youth Theatre members or alumni who have completed Creative Leadership Training. This exciting role offers the opportunity to work alongside our Playing Up Company for ten months, assisting on the creative delivery of the Playing Up course, providing administrative pastoral support, and assistant directing the end of course production.
