Every year the National Youth Theatre work with hundreds of young people aged between 16-25 who help bring our shows to life through their talents not just on stage, but backstage too.
Whether you are interested in lighting, sound, scenic construction, stage management or costume, there could be a role for you to be a part of our epic shows amongst our vital backstage teams. Led by industry experts, with backstage visits and tours to top theatre venues, our backstage courses give you practical experience that will help develop your interest and technical knowledge within your chosen field.
The National Youth Theatre Backstage Courses are three week industry-led courses for young people aged 16 – 25 who have successfully interviewed to join the National Youth Theatre as a Backstage Member. You can choose to specialise in one of the following faculties:
- Costume Design and Making
- Lighting, Video and Projection
- Set Design & Scenic Construction
- Sound Design and Composition
- Stage Management
The courses cater for all levels of experience. So, if you have knowledge in your field already, our industry professional tutor will be able to stretch you, or if you are brand new to backstage it's a great way to try something new and develop your interest in a specific field.
