Are bursaries available to help cover costs of fees/accommodation/travel or living expenses?
Yes. Last year we gave over £650,000 worth of bursaries to help participants take part in our auditions, courses and shows.
The NYT Bursary Fund is in high demand so we ask you only to apply for a bursary if you are experiencing financial hardship. They are means tested and will be offered to part cover transport, course fees or accommodation costs should you be successful in gaining a place. To find out more and how to apply visit https://www.nyt.org.uk/accessibility-fees-and-funding
Can I audition more than once?
You can’t audition more than once per year, although you can apply for one of our backstage courses. For many young people the backstage courses are a great way to get involved with the organisation and offer a great insight into the world of theatre beyond performing. There’s also a greater chance of getting on the backstage course than the acting course. Visit https://www.nyt.org.uk/courses/backstage to find out more.
What happens after the summer course?
After the course you will become a company member of the National Youth Theatre! Find out where the membership could take you here.
How else can I get involved with the National Youth Theatre in the meantime?
Auditioning to join the National Youth Theatre’s company membership is extremely competitive. Many young people apply three or four times before gaining a place. The great news is there is still loads you can get involved with in the meantime.
- NYT Club Membership (For ticket discounts, access to open rehearsals, and advice)
- Short Courses (Masterclasses during academic holidays in Acting for Screen, Audition Technique, Performing Shakespeare and Directing and Writing)
- Find out what kind of productions you could be in and come and see one of our shows!
How do I accept my place?
If you haven’t already sent us your acceptance form you need to do so before the below deadline. You can find this form in the link that was sent to you via email which offered you a place.
Please complete and return to the email address your results was sent from.

What if I’ve already sent my acceptance form?
If you’ve already sent the form you don’t need to send it again or call to check we’ve got it. We’d never give away anyone’s place before contacting you to check you definitely didn’t want it first, so don’t worry, if we haven’t got your form by the deadline, we’ll chase you.
How can I pay for my course and accommodation? (if required)
To pay for your course or accommodation you need to go to our website, log in the account you booked your audition with and go to the below URL. You’ll then be able to add the course fee to your basket and the accommodation fee should you wish to stay with us (accommodation is operational – see your course pack for more details.)

Epic Course: TBC
How can I apply for a bursary?
If you would like to apply for a bursary to help contribute towards your course and/or accommodation fees you will need to complete an application form. Please complete and return to the address advised in the email. The NYT Bursary Fund is reserved for those in most need of financial support. Please note that the Fund is limited and depends on our success in raising funds each year. We cannot guarantee that every application to the fund will be successful or the full amount applied for can be granted.
We appreciate that the course fee and accommodation costs are significant, however every year young people do fundraise the full amount in order to attend a course. Fundraising advice can be downloaded here. From sponsored walks to cake baking, fund raising can be a fun and rewarding way to raise money.
Bursary deadline (all courses): TBC
You’ll hear back from us: TBC
Can I defer my place or request to change courses?
Due to the very limited number of places we can offer each year, we are unable to defer any places or move you to another programme.
How the reserve list works
Following our auditions around 600 acting applicants have been offered a place on a summer membership course. However, in previous years not everyone has been able to accept these places. Therefore, if an applicant declines we contact young people one at a time on the reserve list who may wish to take up the place.
Due to the nature of how places are accepted and our aim to create a balanced company, we are not able to guarantee anyone on the reserve list will be offered a place or give an indication of how likely it is that those on the reserve list might be contacted. However, the deadline for young people to accept places on the course is (TBC) so if you haven’t heard from us by then it is less likely we’ll be in touch. That being said, if at any point before the courses begin a young person drops out of one of the courses we will offer their place to someone on the reserve list.
We appreciate that this will be disappointing and don’t expect anyone to hold off making other plans for the summer, but wanted to let you know that we really enjoyed meeting you at the audition and you came very close.
If a place does become available, we will contact you via email.
Want to get in touch?
Due to the large number of applicants we often receive a high level of phone and email traffic in the office. So, if you’ve got a quick general question it might be easier to tweet us @NYTofGB.
We’re of course always happy to discuss any personal or sensitive issues on the phone and our offices are open between the hours of 10am and 6pm Monday to Friday. We’ll endeavour to get back to you as soon as we can and appreciate your patience.
