NYT REP Company

A free 9 month drama programme

As a cheap but effective alternative to formal training it’s a brilliant idea.

 The Times

Following a pilot in 2012, our first official REP Company was formed in 2013. Since then the REP has gone from strength-to-strength with many REP graduates being signed by agents, and alumni success including Sope Dirisu (2013) playing the lead in Coriolanus (RSC), Seraphina Beh (2016) appearing in Top Boy (Netflix) and Eastenders (BBC), and Ellise Chappell (2015) in Poldark (BBC).

The REP aims to prepare NYT Members for a successful career as an actor. REP Members have previously been mentored by industry professionals, and received Q&As and classes from visiting tutors and partners including National Theatre, BBC Radio Drama and the Royal Court to name a few.

Agents and casting directors are invited to attend our REP Season every year. In recent years we have teamed up with Spotlight on hosting industry performances around the REP Season.

It’s always bracing to welcome the National Youth Theatre into the West End for its annual autumn repertory season, and this year’s 16-strong acting ensemble looks particularly potential-packed.

FAQs

Can I take part?

To take part in REP, you must be a current NYT Company Member aged 17-25 to apply. Successful applicants will be versatile performers who are mature, responsible and self-starting.

  • If auditioning aged 17, you must be at least 18 years old when the course begins
  • You can take part in REP aged 26, as long as you are 25 when you complete your casting audition

* Please note: If you are recalled for the REP Company you will be required to provide Photo ID to prove your age

How do I apply?

Auditions for our REP Company normally take place as part of our annual Casting Auditions open to NYT Members.

The latest information about applying to our REP Company will be made available on the Members' Board.

How do recalls work?

The REP audition process consists of four rounds. Unfortunately, as over 1000 members take part in our annual Casting Auditions not everyone who applies will receive a recall. You are not expected to prepare beyond your initial casting audition at this stage.

1. Your Initial Casting Audition - Jan-Feb, Select from Six Cities. Full day audition. Take part in two workshops, one in devising and one in music, and perform a two minute monologue of your choice

2. Second Round Recall – Early March, London Half day monologue workshop session. You should prepare both a classical and contemporary monologue.

3. Third Round Recall – Late March, London Three hour monologue workshop session. You should prepare both a classical and contemporary monologue (can be the same as previous rounds).

4. Fourth Round Recall – Late March, London Individual monologue audition. You will be asked to prepare four speeches. Full details will be provided at a later stage.

What about fees?

There are no course fees for the REP. Members can also apply for a bursary to support living costs. REP members can also apply for one £5000 bursary courtesy of the Clothworkers Foundation. We’re also able to provide support applying to other trusts and foundation. Each member of the REP also received creative and pastoral support from an individually assigned industry mentor.

Are there non acting opportunities within REP?
